Anemia de Fanconi, Pioneirismo, Transplante de Medula Óssea
Resumo
Introdução: O transplante de medula óssea (TMO) consiste na infusão intravenosa de células progenitoras hematopoiéticas provenientes de um doador ou do próprio paciente, visando restabelecer a função medular e imune. O Complexo Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná (CHC/UFPR) desempenhou um papel importante para que esse tratamento chegasse ao Brasil na década de 1970, tornando-se pioneiro e um serviço de referência no país, contando atualmente com mais de 2800 transplantes realizados. Objetivo: Realizar um levantamento histórico da produção científica sobre Transplante de Células-Tronco Hematopoiéticas (TCTH) realizado no CHC/UFPR. Material e métodos: Realizou-se uma revisão de literatura incluindo artigos em inglês e português e reportagens relacionados à história do transplante de medula óssea e suas inovações no CHC/UFPR. Como ferramenta de busca foram utilizadas as seguintes bases de dados eletrônicas: National Library of Medicine e Repositório Digital Institucional da UFPR. Resultados: O Serviço de Transplante de Medula Óssea (STMO) do CHC/UFPR foi o primeiro a realizar um TMO na América Latina, em 1979. Em 1992, realizou o primeiro transplante utilizando células de cordão umbilical e em 1995, foi referenciado como primeiro centro de transplante apto a utilizar medula óssea de doadores não aparentados. Desde então, o STMO dedica-se à ampliação de conhecimentos nessa área e aprimoramento técnico do procedimento, visando melhores resultados pós-transplante. Nessa trajetória, conquistou a cobertura do procedimento pelo Sistema Único de Saúde e reconhecimento a nível internacional da qualidade do serviço prestado, tornando-se referência mundial no tratamento da Anemia de Fanconi. Conclusão: A implantação de uma técnica de sucesso realizada pelo CHC/UFPR, um hospital ainda em crescimento na época, bem como seu consequente aperfeiçoamento, fez da instituição destaque internacional. Desde então, a produção científica relacionada ao TMO teve um aumento notável, tornando possível oferecer à saúde pública brasileira um serviço de excelência.
