Introdução: Segundo a OMS, a sífilis Congênita atinge mais de 1,6 milhões de casos no mundo. No Brasil, o cenário não é diferente pois apesar da existência de tratamento eficaz e de baixo custo, essa enfermidade ainda configura como um importante problema de saúde pública devido aos altos índices epidemiológicos e ao impacto negativo trazido para sociedade. Objetivo: O presente trabalho objetivou-se analisar através de um estudo descritivo e retrospectivo a ocorrência e o perfil dos casos de internações de sífilis congênita notificadas no estado do Pernambuco, no período de 2019 a 2021. Material e métodos: As informações foram obtidas no banco de dados do DATASUS, considerando-se apenas os casos confirmados e notificados no referido sistema. As variáveis utilizadas foram: sexo, faixa etária, período, caráter de atendimento e município. Em Pernambuco, no período analisado, foram registradas 5.418 internações. O tipo de atendimento predominante foi de urgência com 98,7% dos casos. Com relação à faixa etária, aos maiores índices ocorreram em pacientes com menos de 1 ano, porém observou-se registros nas faixas etárias de 1 a 4 anos (15 casos), 5 a 9 anos (4 casos) e 10 a 14 anos (2 casos), caracterizando quadros tardios. Quanto ao sexo, não houve prevalência em relação a essa variável. Resultados: Entre os municípios com maiores índices, destacam-se, Recife (29%), seguido por Jaboatão dos Guararapes (11%), Olinda (7,1%) e Petrolina (3,9%). A taxa de incidência de sífilis congênita por 1.000 nascidos vivos no Pernambuco foi de 1,2 no ano de 2019 (último ano com registro de nascidos vivos). Diante dos resultados fica evidente que os casos de sífilis congênita em Pernambuco ainda merecem atenção especial. Conclusão: Apesar das estratégias de prevenção bem definidas e a disponibilidade de tratamento eficaz, a sua ocorrência evidencia falhas no pré-natal. Para que a cadeia de transmissão possa ser interrompida, as ações de prevenção desenvolvidas pelos municípios, devem estar diretamente relacionadas com a atenção à gestante. O diagnóstico precoce, a ampla cobertura na oferta de testes para sífilis, tratamento adequado, além da orientação para prática sexual segura e planejamento reprodutivo, são fatores cruciais no combate a infecção e redução dos casos de sífilis congênita.
