Introdução: Atualmente, em nossa sociedade, tem aumentado de forma significativa o uso de substâncias psicoativas, tornando-se assim um grave problema social. Por vezes, as mesmas acabam por influenciar de forma negativa a vida daqueles que fazem o uso, bem como daqueles que convivem de maneira mais próxima. Geralmente, os familiares demonstram possuir intenso sofrimento emocional, o que pode influenciar nos múltiplos âmbitos da vida, especialmente no trabalho e na rotina familiar. Mães deixam de trabalhar, de cuidar de outros filhos, do relacionamento e até de si mesmas, na busca de ajudar o filho dependente químico, ou pelo fato de se sentirem culpadas pela situação. Esses exemplos também são visualizados em outros familiares. Se não houver um cuidado sobre a saúde mental desses membros, poderão desenvolver distúrbios no sono, alimentares, depressão, ansiedade, transtorno do pânico e doenças psicossomáticas. Objetivo: reconhecer processo de adoecimento, sentimentos de fracasso e de culpa comuns entre familiares de dependentes químicos. Metodologia: relato de experiência acerca desta temática em um estágio curricular de Psicologia realizado em um grupo Transformação e de apoio localizado em uma cidade do interior do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. O local oferece um espaço para dependentes químicos e seus familiares, os quais buscam o auxílio na melhora das relações e o abandono do vício de álcool e outras drogas. Resultados: Como resultados destas essas trocas, foi possível observar o sofrimento das famílias, o excesso de preocupação, sentimento de culpa e de vulnerabilidade que também são muito presentes, bem como a importância da fala e identificação entre os atores participantes do grupo. Visando a promoção de saúde, utilizou-se a contribuição da psicologia para diminuição ou enfrentamento de tais intercorrências, sendo assim foram elaborados recursos informativos. Através de material digital, trabalhou-se questões como: culpa, comunicação, autoestima, autocuidado e relações sociais. Além de continuar com o método da escuta do grupo e escuta individual. Conclusão: foram observadas algumas contribuições, auxiliando na diminuição do estresse, melhora na qualidade do sono, produtividade e criatividade, crescimento pessoal, desenvolvimento da autonomia, bem como formar redes que auxiliam e facilitam sua socialização.
