Introdução: No início de 2020, a pandemia da covid-19 deixou o mundo em alerta, devido a sua alta taxa de transmissibilidade e mortalidade e o pouco conhecimento que tinha a seu respeito, hoje, é possível saber os sintomas que a pessoa infectada apresenta, como febre, tosse seca e cansaço, apesar de não ser um vírus desconhecido pelos cientistas, o SARS-CoV-2 ganhou esse nome por ter surgido com mutações desconhecida pela comunidade científica. E com as informações sobre o vírus, surgiram também as notícias falsas com teorias infundadas as quais acabaram induzindo as pessoas ao erro não sabendo diferenciar as inverdades .Objetivo: Descrever as consequências causadas na população devido as fake news sobre a covid-19 e a importância de pesquisar e repassar informações de sites confiáveis . Material e métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, que foi realizada nas bases de dados Scielo e Pubmed, utilizando os descritores “fake news", “ Covid-19” e “ infodemia" de 2020 a 2021. Resultados: No Brasil, nos primeiros meses de 2020 as informações falsas relacionado a covid-19 foram disseminadas em grande escala pelas redes sociais, como a inexistências de casos da doença, tratamentos caseiros e medicamentos sem comprovação científica, teorias conspiratória sobre a pandemia ser estratégia política, inclusive sustentada pelo governo federal, todo esse bombardeio de informações gerou uma crise na população, que não sabiam diferenciar as notícias verdadeiras das falsas, o que deixou as pessoas sobrecarregadas, ansiosas, deprimidas e exaustas. Conclusão: A Internet é uma grande ferramenta para buscar informações, principalmente sobre a covid-19, no entanto, algumas informações devem ser filtradas e priorizadas àquelas que possuem uma fonte confiável. A maioria das notícias falsas foram propagadas via redes sociais, por isso todas as fontes devem ser investigadas, pois quando são fundidas em inverdades, podem ocasionar danos, o que pode-se afirmar que ocorreu no Brasil, tendo em vista as fakes news espalhadas em grande proporção, gerando falsa crença de um tratamento preventivo para a COVID-19, levando as pessoas a usarem medicamentos sem comprovação científica e em excesso.
